We see the impact of financial struggle in our community and we are offering a way to change families’ futures through free financial literacy education! While we are sponsoring the courses, Mission Federal Credit Union will be teaching the classes.

Every course will be different, to offer you exactly what you need. Lowering the cost of your insurance? There will be a course for that! Confused about investments? We’ve got you! Even if you are joining to get back on track with your spending and budgeting, there will be classes for that as well!

Your 7th and 8th graders will also have opportunities to take courses that teach them basic financial information. Youth often receive paychecks and loans, before they know the basics of finances and we are here to change that.

The key to bridging the wealth gap is to start from zero! The best part? You will automatically be a part of a community that is in the same place as you. Encouraging you to get to where you long to be!

Let’s become financially FREE, together!

  • A dedicated team of finance professionals from Mission Federal Credit Union, will teach from MFCU’s curriculum.

  • YES! They will receive $25 from the foundation, to open an account with Mission Federal Credit Union (Grossmont location). An advisor will walk them through their checking and savings accounts, along with offering guidance in managing their finances.

  • Venue at the Village, in downtown La Mesa! The use of this gorgeous venue has been generously donated by Whissel Realty Group.

  • There is not one! We know that this is a missing piece in equality for all and are excited to be partnering with local businesses to provide classes free of cost. There will be opportunities to open an account with Mission Federal, however, that is not a requirement.

  • Certain classes will be for adults (18+) and others will be for seventh and eighth graders.

  • Youth receiving $25 to open an account at MFCU, must take a course in order to receive the $25.

    Adults can go directly to the branch, however, formal education is not available at the branch. There will also be monetary opportunities for taking the course before opening an account.
